Rottnest Island Temporary Workers Camp

Emergency Planning Project - Emergency Management Manual and Evacuation Diagrams

Location: Rottnest Island, WA

Critical Fire has for many years provided Fire Equipment Installation, Maintenance and Repairs to Rottnest Island including managing critical safety equipment essential to the Islands operations. Rottnest Island is a key tourism destination and culturally occupies a significant part of Western Australia’s history. Due to ongoing works on the island, a temporary workers camp was established to provide accommodation to workers.

Project

Critical Fire was selected to provide an Emergency Management Manual and Evacuation Diagrams for over 100 rooms. As part of this process we:

  • Completed a review of the plans prior to attendance.
  • Travelled to the Island at short notice to meet a key deadline.
  • Undertook a risk assessment of the camp in accordance with AS 3745. The key elements of this included the remote location, limitations of emergency response and management of dangerous goods.
  • Developed a comprehensive Emergency Management Manual, fully compliant with AS 3745.
  • Developed Evacuation Diagram artwork to AS 3745 utilising our in-house draftsmen for over 100 rooms.
  • Printed, laminated and delivered the Evacuation Diagrams as well as Emergency Management Manual.

Outcomes

  1. Fully Compliant Emergency Management Manual and Evacuation Diagrams to AS 3745.
  2. Met a key deadline to ensure compliance and allow construction works to continue.
  3. Completed on budget whilst working at a remote location with logistical challenges.
